job description
apply here:
Wireless communications technology has evolved over five generations, but the need for greater efficiency, availability and reliability is never-ending. Our 6G research goal is to identify new breakthrough algorithms and protocols to support future wireless applications and services. In this postdoctoral program, you will contribute to the formation of 6G theory and be at the international forefront of a specific research area. Some possible areas include protocol design and resource allocation in 6G networks, integrated communication and sensing, and Gigantic Multiple Input Multiple Output (Gigantic MIMO) in the mid- and high-band and millimeter-wave frequencies. We believe that a successful postdoctoral phase will build on your existing skills and extend them by targeting new research challenges and using new methodologies.
Research can span the physical, media access control and network layers. Approaches from networking, communication theory, machine learning, signal processing and optimization may play an important role. The research will be largely theoretical, but KTH could provide a test bed for potential experiments. However, we do not need microwave engineers as no antennas or hardware will be built.
The research will be carried out in the Communication Systems Division of the School of Electrical Engineering and Science by Prof. Emil Björnson (IEEE Fellow, Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher), Visiting Professor Marina Petrova, and other colleagues in the division.
You can read the paper “Enabling 6G Performance in the Upper Mid-Band by Transitioning From Massive to Gigantic MIMO”, arXiv 2407.05630, for some inspiration on potential research directions.
offer requirements
You will need to meet the following minimum requirements and be evaluated against the preferred qualifications listed.
Requirements:
– PhD degree or equivalent foreign degree. This qualification requirement must be met prior to making an employment decision.
– Research skills with at least three publications in top scientific journals in your field.
– Proficiency in spoken and written English required for daily work.
Preferred Qualifications:
– Ph.D. or equivalent foreign degree obtained within three years prior to the application deadline.
– Applicants who have recently completed a dissertation or expect to do so before an employment decision is made.
– We seek a highly motivated researcher with good collaborative skills who is able to work independently as well as contribute new knowledge and co-direction to the research group and serve as a role model for PhD students. Good analytical and problem-solving skills are required.
– Research is expected to use methods in networking, communication theory, machine learning, signal processing and optimization. Evidence of experience in conducting research in these areas is desirable, in particular at least three publications in top scientific journals (IEEE journals or equivalent).
– Understanding of diversity and equal opportunity issues, with a particular focus on gender equality.
Focus on individual skills.
