There are three postdoctoral positions available, with research topics revolving around large language models (LLMs) or vision-language models (VLMs):
– Re-thinking robustness in deep learning to improve and verify model robustness.
– Developing new methods for continual learning, federated learning, and combinatorial optimization by leveraging continuous and discrete optimization theory.
– Accelerating inference systems and building the next-generation inference frameworks.

offer requirements

Applicants should have obtained or be about to obtain a PhD degree in electrical engineering, computer science, applied mathematics, or related fields. A solid background in machine learning, continuous optimization, deep learning, or other relevant areas is required. Strong coding skills are an important plus.

offer benefits

LIONS offers a vibrant, highly collaborative, and enjoyable research environment with access to EPFL’s state-of-the-art facilities. The team is very active in publishing at top machine learning conferences (such as NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR). Applicants are encouraged to show initiative and conduct independent research projects aligned with their own interests. The position is a fixed-term contract (1 year, renewable), full-time (100%).

Notable alumni achievements from the lab include: 12 alumni became professors (including at University of Wisconsin, University of Washington, University of Southern California, University of Pennsylvania, Technion, University of Tübingen, Zhejiang University, Vietnam National University, National University of Singapore, University of North Carolina, AIMS South Africa, Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, etc.); 1 alumni leads the AI team at SwissRe; others joined postdoctoral or scientist positions at institutions such as the Max Planck Institute and Allen Institute.

PhD alumni include: 5 became professors (including at University of Gothenburg, University College London, University of Tübingen, National Taiwan University, Rice University); 2 became engineers at Kandou Bus; 5 joined scientist positions at Square Point, Meta, SDSC, Samsung AI, UnternehmerTUM, etc.; others pursued postdoctoral positions at institutions such as University of Texas at Austin, École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (2 people), CIBM, University of Geneva, etc.
