It is an ideal choice for academic, staff and students.’, ‘your_task’: {‘about_the_unpack_project’: ‘The UNPACK project: “Analyzing asylum procedures from linguistic, socio-cultural, psychological and legal intersectional perspectives” (abbreviated as UNPACK) is an interdisciplinary, inter-university iBOF project that studies fairness in asylum procedures. Asylum procedures are challenging, partly because all participants (applicants, officials, interpreters, lawyers, etc.) have diverse socio-cultural and linguistic backgrounds, as well as the interactions between them.\n\nThe UNPACK project integrates insights from four disciplines: linguistics, anthropology, psychology and law to examine the real experiences of participants. Through in-depth ethnographic research on specific cases and broader organizational contexts, UNPACK aims to gain a deeper understanding of asylum procedures, thereby developing a new, comprehensive, evidence-based fairness framework.\n\nFunded by iBOF, with matching research funding from Flemish universities, it supports frontier research. UNPACK is coordinated by Karel Arnaut (Anthropology, KU Leuven), Ilse Derluyn (Social Work, Ghent University), Katrijn Maryns (Applied Linguistics, Ghent University) and Ellen Desmet (Law, Ghent University).
