Job description

Postdoctoral Position in Silviculture Project Description South Swedish Forest Research Center We are seeking a highly motivated individual to conduct research in silviculture, growth and yield modeling. The focus of the project is on stand management of coniferous species and selection of tree species for harsh conditions. Position Description The experiments that will be evaluated in this postdoctoral program are located in northern Sweden. The postdoc will measure existing experiments, analyze experimental data and publish reports in scientific journals. Research questions include development of silvicultural methods, selection of tree species and operational implementation of adaptation to climate change. Candidates will be affiliated with the Department’s silviculture division and work in silviculture teams focusing on multi-purpose forest management, addressing adaptation to climate change and high-intensity versus low-intensity forestry. We use empirical and process-based modeling methods with input data from national forest inventories and long-term experiments. Your profile Candidates must have a PhD in silviculture and/or forest management or a similar specialty. Candidates must have extensive experience in tree and stand data analysis as described in scientific publications and/or papers. In addition, the candidate must have experience in designing forest experiments for regeneration or stand management and experience with Nordic tree species. The department highly values candidates interested in undergraduate teaching and mentoring. It is also an advantage if the candidate holds a valid driver’s license and has extensive experience in field work. Since postdoctoral positions are career advancement positions for junior researchers, we are primarily looking for candidates who have been earning their Ph.D. for a maximum of three years. About Us SLU is one of the highest ranked universities in the world in several subject areas, and number one in forestry (CWUR). At our centers, we conduct research, teach, and disseminate scientific results that are directly applicable to the sustainable management of forests. With our multidisciplinary background, we have global relevance and expertise in the complex social-ecological system of forests and forestry. We work closely with multiple stakeholders to conduct applied research in silviculture, forest ecology, pathology, policy and planning. We teach Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD programs across all of these subject areas.
