Postdoctoral Position in Silviculture Project Description South Swedish Forest Research Center We are seeking a highly motivated individual to conduct research at the intersection of silviculture and tree ecophysiology. The focus of the project is on how stand management affects tree ecophysiology and drought response. Position DescriptionThe postdoc will measure existing experiments, analyze the experimental data, and publish reports in scientific journals. The experiments of the project are in coniferous forest plantations under boreal and semi-boreal conditions in Sweden. Here we can assess how spacing and density affect resource availability and stand growth of individual trees. We will make detailed measurements under and within the tree canopy, hourly and daily estimates of water transport and photosynthesis processes, and comprehensive annual and periodic measurements of stand growth. Candidates will be affiliated with the department’s silviculture division and work on silviculture teams focused on multi-purpose forest management, addressing adaptation to climate change and high-intensity versus low-intensity forestry. We use empirical and process-based modeling methods with input data from national forest inventories and long-term experiments. About UsSLU is one of the highest ranked universities in the world in several disciplines, and number one in forestry (CWUR). At our centers, we conduct research, teach, and disseminate scientific results that are directly applicable to sustainable forest management. With our multidisciplinary background, we have global relevance and expertise in the complex social-ecological system of forests and forestry. We work closely with multiple stakeholders to conduct applied research in silviculture, forest ecology, pathology, policy and planning. We teach Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD programs across all of these subject areas. offer requirements
Your profile Candidates must have a PhD in silviculture and/or forest management or a similar specialty. Candidates must have extensive experience in tree and stand data analysis as described in scientific publications and/or papers. In addition, practical field experience in ecophysiological measurement techniques, forest experimental design for stand management, and Nordic tree species should be available. The department highly values candidates interested in undergraduate teaching and mentoring. It is also an advantage if the candidate holds a valid driver’s license and has extensive fieldwork experience. Since postdoctoral positions are career development positions for junior researchers, we are primarily looking for candidates who have had a PhD for a maximum of three years.
